Since the entry of Oneplus in the smartphone segment in Indian market with their OnePlus One we have got more into a new category called the flagship killer. Every year we have a new Oneplus smartphone like this year. In the beginning of 2020 OnePlus launched the OnePlus 8 and 8 Pro and this is the time for the Oneplus 8T and Oneplus 8T Pro.
OnePlus this time has decided to omit the 8T pro model so we have only Oneplus 8T. Here is our review on the latest OnePlus flagship and lets find out if it’s worth your money.
This year’s Oneplus flagships were launched on October 14th and we had expected that there will be two phone but it is not the case. Oneplus 8T is the only phone launched in the second half of the year.
Some of the noticeable changes from the Oneplus 8 are the following

OnePlus 8 Vs OnePlus 8T. Whats new?
- Oneplus 8T comes with a 120HZ instead of the 90 Hz in the OnePlus 8
- A charging speed upgrade to 65W instead of 30W in OnePlus 8
- Quad camera setup instead of the regular triple camera setup
- Android 11 with Oxygen OS 11
- Two new colors.
If we omit the above mentioned changes the OnePlus 8T is similar as the OnePlus 8 which is not a bad thing but this time the upgrades are less. The main upgrade that we felt was the 65 W charging that should make a difference. The processor is same Snapdragon 865 and the same RAM and storage options as he previous model. OnePlus 8T can still be considered as an upgrade from OnePlus 8 but not much of a difference when it comes to OnePlus 8 Pro
Whats the price of OnePlus 8T?
OnePlus 8T cost around is one of the first 5g flagship in INDIA and the pricing starts from Rs 42,999 which can be considered as it falls in the mid tier pricing segment. Its main configs are.
- 12GB RAM
- 256GB storage
We have discussed all the features of the latest OnePlus phone here below for you to check. OnePlus 8T is mainly targeted to the Samsung Galaxy S20 FE model and the Poco F2 Pro.
Many people were asking the question as will OnePlus launch 8T Pro? We had expected that OnePlus 8T pro price will be similar to OnePlus 8 Pro but unfortunately that model was not launched
- Wireless Charging
- No IP rating
- Snapdragon 865 plus is not present
- Internal storage is limited to 256 GB and cannot be expanded
- Cameras are the best highlighting factor of this phone.
Should OnePlus 8 and OnePlus 8 Pro users upgrade?
For this it’s not a much worthy upgrade for the OnePlus 8 or OnePlus 8 pro users. You should wait another Year for the next OnePlus flagship to be released. This also answers the question should I buy OnePlus 8 or wait for 8T?
Reasons for upgrade in case if you want to.
If you are using a OnePlus 8 phone then you can get wireless charging, a slightly better camera and the higher refresh rate and nothing else. In case if you have a OnePlus 8 pro then it’s not a worthy upgrade to the is one.
Also the OnePlus 8 and the 8 pro have already received the latest Oxygen OS 11 based on Android 11 so that should not be the reason for upgrading.
Those who have not bought the OnePlus 8 or the pro model can surely checkout eh OnePlus 8T as they can have some cool new features and a better performing device.
The Problem that we have noticed till now is that all the OnePlus phones launched are not up-to the mark in the Camera department and the Camera of the OnePlus 8T is no different. Still OnePlus needs some good touches to make it a better camera.
Another device which the this is competing with is the Samsung galaxy S20FE which provides almost the same set of features at a lesser price so people can also consider that for their next purchase.

So on comparing this with OnePlus 8 We wont find much of a difference in the specification other than the display.
What is 120hz display?
120hz displays are becoming more and more popular now a days because they are being liked by people. A 120hz display will refreshed 120 time a second compared to the normal 60hz display which only refresh 60 time. This will give a feeling of much smoother performance and better gaming. This usually will have a negative effect on battery but its a nice feature to have.

OnePlus 8T with Charging speeds in 65W
Being different from Previous generations of OnePlus phone this years in OnePlus 8T bring 65W wired charging speed called as Warp charge 65.
This feature will allow the phone to charge from 0 to 100 in 39 Minutes which is one of the best charging speeds in this segment. So from 50 to 100 percent it will charge in 13 to 14 minutes which is great.
The charging speeds are good but will the Warp charging in 65W affect the battery? AS we know faster charging speeds like this can easily degrade the battery life and capacity but as per OnePlus they have added 12 thermal monitors to control the charging and avoid overheating of the battery making the battery last longer.
As mentioned by OnePlus in their event there are two batteries in OnePlus 8T which combine to make the total battery capacity of 4500 Mah. Due to this split design the thermal heating can be controlled to some extent which will help in reduced battery degradation.
You can use the same 65 W charger to charge a laptop with USB C charging at similar speeds as well.
OnePlus 8T battery life:
Since the OnePlus 8T and the Oneplus 8 share similar features except the 120 Hz display refresh rate the battery life of the OnePlus 8T should be similar.
When I tested the OnePlus 8 It got a battery life which was pretty good and it lasted a full day with 7 hours of screen on time. So OnePlus 8T also should give similar results.
OnePlus 8T speeds performance:
Speeds are not a big factor nowadays as all the flagships that come to the market are powered by the latest and greatest SOC. The OnePlus 8T is using the Snapdragon 865 which is one gen behind the latest Snapdragon 865 Plus.
In our experience the OnePlus 8 performed really well and still its the same after this much time from when it was launched. So it’s sure that with the Oxygen OS optimisation and the light weigh OS design and a powerful processor OnePlus 8T will perform very well in daily usage.
The Adreno 660 GPU will help it perform well in gaming department as well. The latest phones like Samsung galaxy note 20 and the galaxy fold come with Snapdragon 865 plus processors but this time OnePlus has selected a previous generation processor that they have used for OnePlus 8 as well.
Even though its a previous gen processor it has been performing well in all the phones that its being used and it should be the same in the new OnePlus 8T as well.
Oxygen OS 11 in OnePlus 8T
In my experience Oxygen OS is one of the best skin over android that we can get in the market. Its looks stock with no additional junks as well as it has some good features added that even the stock android version 11 could not provide.
With the new oxygen OS 11, it performs as good as the phone which were using the previous versions of Oxygen OS. As per OnePlus the OnePlus 8T will be the first phone coming out with the Oxygen OS 11.
New Oxygen OS 11 main features:
- Always On display
- New Dark mode toggle in settings
- New features related to OnePlus Zen mode
- Some changes to the OnePlus apps.
- One handed operations are made better with this version of Oxygen OS 11
As per OnePlus CEO Pete Lau, Other older versions of OnePlus phones also will get the latest Oxygen OS version and all the features listed above.
OnePlus 8T alternatives:
There are many other phones that are recently launched in the market with similar features and price. So OnePlus 8T that was launched recently does not have a name as flagship killer as other phones also are offering same or better features like a better camera, IP rating etc.
Some alternatives to OnePlus 8T
Samsung Galaxy S20 FE: This phone was also recently launched in the Indian market and can be considered as one of the best phones under 50000 as it provides some with some rounded features and good camera compared to the Oneplus 8T.
Google Pixel 5: The latest generation Pixel 5 is one of the most anticipated phones this year as it provides some of the best stock android experience for the Stock android lovers. So that also comes in a similar price range and with an excellent camera that a pixel is known for and also faster software updates and support, the google pixel 5 can be a good alternative for the Oneplus 8T.
Apple iPhone 12: Being the leader in camera segment for last two years, iPhones are also known for the ecosystem support and they have the best processor that you can get in the market. With Apple’s new A14 bionic chip the iPhone 12 and the iPhone 12 pro max can be a good alternative to the One Plus 8T. Apple iPhone 12 pro max being a bit on the pricier segment, the iPhone 12 will best suit this category.
Should you buy a OnePlus 8T or wait.
As I had mentioned earlier. OnePlus 8T is a performer and in case if you are using a previous gen OnePlus phone like the OnePlus 7 or 7T or the 6 it would be a nice upgrade to this phone. This year OnePlus has not included the OnePlus 8T Pro so it’s a bit of a disappointment. In case if you want a bigger screen and similar performance with some more features like water resistance then the OnePlus 8 Pro is still a good option.
